ESL Defence , in collaboration with Tenix Defence Systems in Australia, is developing a family of medium and long range electro-optical (EO) threat emitters. The Mallina system, in addition to performing stimulation and measurement of Missile Warning System (MWS) , Infra-red (IR) Jammers and Directed IR Countermeasure (DIRCM) systems, can provide an aircrew training aid. The complete Mallina system consists of four modules. These provide a set of EO threat emitters/receivers that can address the following requirements:

• Stimulation and declaration of Ultra-violet (UV) or IR missile warning sets.
• Confirmation of IR Jammer countermeasures.
• Stimulation, declaration and confirmation of a successful DIRCM operation and countermeasure.

The existing Mallina system is capable of stimulating a MWS or DIRCM system in excess of 5 km dependent upon the sensitivity of the warner. Mallina can be mounted on an existing director/pedestal platform or manually operated on a tripod.

The Mallina system builds upon the proven pedigree of the ESL flight-line confidence test set product range. The concept of the complete Mallina is based upon a set of modularised units derived from the MEOS, medium range DIRCM stimulator. The Mallina system can be provided in a number of configurations, from a basic UV or IR missile warner stimulator, e.g AN/AAR-47, AAR-54, AAR-57 (CMWS), AAR-60 MILDS; a combination of stimulators, to the complete integrated system for DIRCM applications such as Nemesis and ATIRCM.

Two MEOS equipments are in regular service in support of the UK and two other countries' training programmes.
