Research and Development

The Electronic Warfare (EW) market forms ESL Defence's main business area covering both Research studies and product development for UK MOD Defence Agency Dstl and some of the UK's Prime Defence Contractors. ESL Defence has a respected team of specialists covering many fields of expertise, developing innovative ideas for future research topics and products. The Company is not required to promote its own EW System solutions and is, therefore, a genuinely independent source of EW knowledge. There are five divisions to the Research and Development sector of the Company:


EW/Radar SystemsWEBSITEPIC_EW_RADAR

ESL Defence pursue simulation studies to investigate basic concepts and ideas. One of these has been the construction of an innovative method for performing rapid convolution processes within a Radar. ESL Defence have also developed a symbolic approach to modelling both communication and Non-Communication Antenna systems.


Electromagnetic Modelling ARTvis

The Algebraic Ray Tracing (ART) is a fast and effective ray tracing tool for Radar Cross Section (RCS) and antenna pattern predictions. ART provides flexible and cost effective solutions to a wide range of electromagnetic design and prediction problems.


RCS and Antenna Measurement chamber

ESL Defence have constructed their own indoor Anechoic Chamber and have written PC based software to control a Network Analyser and a turntable providing full and simple capability of performing RCS and antenna measurements.


Signature Control

ESL Defence are currently involved in studies for Active, Passive and Counter Stealth technologies. Active Stealth has been one of ESL Defence's main research topics for the past 6 years, Passive and Counter Stealth have become of interest in recent years.


Technical Demonstrators sac

ESL Defence have been undertaking the design and construction of an advanced Electronic Support (ESM) Techniques Demonstrator. ESL Defence are also involved in developing an Ultra Wide Band Arbitrary Waveform Synthesizer capable of producing a true instantaneous bandwidth of greater than 20 GHz.
